Bahamas 14 Islands

Bahamas14 Islands Film Challenge

What we did: Navigation architecture, UX design, custom-map application programming, social media channel integration, bespoke CMS (content management system) and SEO (search engine optimisation).

Highlights: The microsite won the Best Use of Social Media Travolution 2010 Award. Coping with and converting large volumes of UGC (user generated content) video being uploaded by competition entrants.

The Bahamas 14 Islands Film Challenge campaign was launched in October 2009, with the 14 finalists each making a film on one of the 14 selected Islands to win a prize of £14,000. The competition was won by Robin Schmidt, announced at the screening and prestigious award ceremony held at Bafta in March 2010.

Working with FKC London on the design, on-IDLE programmed a unique video player and built the fully content managed website to cope with the various stages of a competition - from call to entries, through to submissions, semi-finalists, finalists and winners.

Non-filmmakers could also participate as 'Armchair Critics', voting for their favourite entry, and encouraged to share the content with friends. The website was supported by a Facebook group and Twitter feed - which was also streamed back to the website.

The campaign was a great success for the Bahamas Tourist Office UK, generating much publicity and showcasing the incredible Islands of the Bahamas in a new light.

Commissioned and designed by Fox Kalomaski Crossing, an on-IDLE customer since 2002.
